When does Vegeta go Super Saiyan?

After that fateful day on Namek, where Goku became the first Saiyan to turn Super Saiyan in a thousand years, we all knew it wouldn’t be long until the Prince of Saiyans himself, Vegeta, turned Super Saiyan as well. But it took Vegeta some time to learn this transformation, so when does Vegeta go Super Saiyan?

Vegeta first goes Super Saiyan while training on a planet with 150 times Earth’s gravity after a meteor shower almost kills him. The first time we see Vegeta turn Super Saiyan on-screen is against Android 19 in Episode 129, named “Upgrade to Super Saiyan”.

How did Vegeta become Super Saiyan?

The short answer is hard work! Vegeta became friends with Bulma, and so had access to all of Capsule Corp‘s advance technology.

First of all, he made use of their gravity chamber technology to train in extremely high gravity.

Then he borrowed a spaceship to train on an unknown planet that was 150 times earth gravity.

After a serious training session where Vegeta was frustrated by not turning Super Saiyan, yet again, he was close to giving up.

On top of his failure, a huge meteor was about to hit his training planet, and he didn’t have the strength to destroy it after his rigorous training.

This was when something inside Vegeta snapped. He thought he was about to die a failure, and this is what caused him to turn Super Saiyan.

He already had the required power level and needed that catalyst event to spur his Saiyan DNA into going Super Saiyan DNA.

Vegeta first fight as Super Saiyan was against Android 19.

Even though everyone hates Android 19 and 20 for what they did to Yamcha, you couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for them when faced with a Super Saiyan Vegeta.

They were in a world of trouble, as they were facing both an intelligent and powerful warrior in Super Saiyan Vegeta.

Poor Android 19 got his arms ripped off by Vegeta and then blasted to smithereens while trying to retreat.

Thankfully Android 20 was smart enough to get the hell out of there to activate his other Androids, which didn’t actually end up too well for him.

Vegeta’s Super Saiyan reveal was one of the coolest transformation reveals in Dragon Ball Z, as it really feels like Vegeta earnt it.
