Is Pikkon Canon?

Pikkon certainly made an impression on the audience when he appeared in Dragon Ball Z. He was able to one-shot Super Perfect Cell when Goku had just lost a fight against the weaker form Perfect Cell.

But every time a cool random character appears in the Dragon Ball Z anime we get worried about the canon status of our new favourite hero. So it wasn’t long before fans asked is Pikkon Canon?

No, Pikkon is not canon. He only appeared in the Dragon Ball Z anime and not in the original Dragon Ball manga created by Akira Toriyama.

Pikkon wasn’t created by Toriyama.

While the rules of canon for anime can get confusing, for Dragon Ball Canon it is pretty straightforward and boiled down to a simple question.

Did the character appear in the manga created by Toriyama? While there are some exceptions, such as when Toriyama outlines a story like in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, it’s a pretty good rule.

So sadly, no, Pikkon or any of the new characters in Goku’s otherworld filler saga are canon. It basically didn’t happen, which is quite sad because Grand Kai is one cool dude!

Will Pikkon be Canon?

Never say never. Broly is a very good example of a fan favourite who had been in 2 movies but wasn’t Canon until Toriyama finally brought him into the official canon with Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

Dragon Ball Super seems to love fan service, bringing back Future Trunks and making Master Roshi powerful again.

So who knows, Pikkon could be brought into canon potentially, but there is no evidence this will happen. So don’t hold your breath!
